Coincidences
March 31, 2006:
Like I always do when I get home, I grabbed the mail. Saw my electric bill was in there. Since it's been fairly cool here lately, and the apartments aren't well-insulated, I ripped the thing open and saw... a (relatively) low number. Thinking that probably wasn't right, I saw that it was addressed to the people one floor down.
Their names? Fleischmann. Which is how my family's name was spelled up until about 100 years ago.
I don't have a phone book, since I don't have a land line, so I can't check to see how many Fleshmans/Fleischmanns there are around here. Back in Akron the only ones were relatives. Out of a city of 225,000 or so, we were the only ones. I think there were only three in all of Pittsburgh.
And the Fleischmanns are getting ready to move out. They were here all last year and I never met them. Dang.

March 30, 2006:
Nobody but comment-spammers uses them anyway (probably because I broke something when I added e-mail notifications and never bothered to fix it) so comments are now turned off. If you want to get in touch with me I'm not hard to find.

This probably isn't a shocker to you, but I like geeky stuff. I have a clock with a blank CD as a face (which unfortunately keeps lousy time since it's powered off AA batteries). And now, while going through the blogs I read, I see this:

(Image stolen from JWZ)
Looking at the link provided, it costs $500, which is about $400 more than I'd be willing to drop on it. But it still looks damned cool.

March 14, 2006:
While digging around on my hard drive I found a text file with my old UIN. The contact list (which was rather retardedly stored locally instead of on a Mirabilis server) was lost when my hard drive crapped out sometime in late 2002 or early 2003.
Does anyone out there still use it, or has its time come and gone?
Monday should be interesting...
March 13, 2006:
Took my bike out for the first time this year. Made it out to the parking lot about 3¾ miles from where I get on the trail.
I really shouldn't have gone that far.
While 7½ miles is probably nothing for those of you who are in shape, those of us who spent the winter putting on 10 pounds and getting no more exercise than hauling the groceries up two flights of stairs find that a trifle more difficult than passing up a bag of M&Ms.
Bets on whether I walk around funny tomorrow at work?

I'm having my first Brady-esque evening since... well, since Brady. [Client] sent out a massive invite to [Client's Client] to start doing [Web-based Thing] today. And the response was about 5× what they expected. And they were all in the same time zone. And we hadn't updated the web server they're on yet, because they haven't done any big [Web-based Things] yet.
As they say in the old country: Aw, shit.
A quick run to Best Buy for 3GB of RAM didn't solve much of anything, so my coworker got to make a run to the computer store in Woodbridge to pick up server parts. I finally got everything assembled and got the RAID array dealt with at about 10:00.
I've installed Server 2003, and it's currently chewing on Service Pack 1. After that I get to install IIS, copy over a secure certificate, install [Web-based Thing's Software] and re-export [Web-based Thing's Data File] on the new server.
Then I have to make sure everything actually works. I'll probably be here till about 1:00 at best. And I still have to come in at 8:00 so I can tell [Client] that everything's ready to go. There better not be any complaints if I come in on Wednesday unshaved and unshowered.
Edit, 9:43 AM Wednesday: Finally got out of work at about 3:00, and now I'm back. Wheeeee...
